Sermon Outline
That All May Know Him
Scripture: 1 Timothy 2:1-8
I. Introduction: There are three questions to which everyone should know the answer: Who is the one true God? What is He like? And can I have a personal relationship with Him?
II. Message:
A. God has three basic desires.
- He wants us to develop a personal relationship with Him.
- Jesus Christ, whom He sent to die on the cross, paid our sin-debt in full.
- If we receive Jesus as our Savior, He pardons us of all our sin, and we become children of God.
- He wants us to come to a “knowledge of the truth” by understanding who He is.
- Because God considers idolatry a particularly grievous sin, the first commandment is about putting Him first.
- Jesus commanded the church to go and make disciples of all nations. True discipleship is more than simply knowing biblical principles; it involves having a growing personal relationship with God.
- Parents should raise their children to know the Lord.
- He wants every person to be saved (1 Tim. 2:3-4).
- Jesus Christ was sacrificed for our sins (1 John 2:1-2; John 3:16).
- No matter what you’ve done, you can be forgiven. No one is an exception.
- If we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us (1 John 1:9).
B. God’s desire to save us is motivated by three things:
- His understanding of our sinful condition.
- No amount of good works will ever be enough to save us.
- His unconditional love for us.
- God loved us while we were still sinners (Rom. 5:5-8).
- Though we can be forgiven, sin still has consequences.
- His plan for your life.
- God will direct your path if you lean on Him for understanding (Prov. 3:5-6).
- His plan includes spending eternity with Him after we die. Without Christ, we have no assurance of heaven.
III. Closing: God calls His church to fulfill the Great Commission. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we have a responsibility to make disciples of all nations (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8). Ask yourself the question, What am I doing to help spread God’s good news of salvation?
